농업용수를 확보하기 위해 조성된 저수지를 향해 있는 이 장소는 시간이 갈수록 원시적 경관을 회복하며 자연 호(湖)를 닮아 가려 한다. 비탈진 지형을 따라 자연스레 물과 맞닿아 있었을 이 장소엔 어느덧 사람의 손길이 더해져 길이 생겨나고 길을 따라 석 축에 의해 땅의 위계가 부여되었다. 그러나 아쉽게도 교외 어느 곳에서 늘 마주하던 익숙한 개발 풍경이 자연스레 이어져 땅과 건축, 건축과 건축의 새로운 관계가 요구 되었다.
건축가 3인에게 주어진 각 필지는 맞물려 있으나 서로 다른 위계로 인해 선명한 경계만 남았을 뿐 지형의 고유성은 이미 사라져 버렸다. 인공적으로 만들어진 그 경계에 건축을 대응하기 위한 배치는 무의미하며 오히려 새로운 배치에 의한 질서를 통해 그 경계를 지워내고자 했다. 또한 이 장소 주변에 펼쳐진 물의 경관이 시각적 경험으로서 그치지 않고 다양한 행위를 통해 직접 몸으로 경험하게 될 또 다른 매개로서 물을 담고자 했으며 그 물은 하늘의 구름과 주변의 소나무들을 반사시켜 오래 전 이 장소가 품어왔던 원시성의 환영(幻影)을 통해 마치 나르키소스의 그 신화적 경험을 하게 될지 모른다.
물 위에 흩어진 3X3의 일곱 개 단위 영역들은 고정된 기능을 지시하지 않는다. 이는 일시적으로 점유하여 사용자들에 의해 그 영역들은 자유로이 정의되며 보편적 거주행위를 위한 그 기능의 시퀀스와는 다르다. 동일하게 반복되는 단위 평면과 달리 서로 다른 높이와 각도에 의해 맞물린 단면과 다양한 바닥 레벨에 의해 마치 원지형(原地形)을 거닐 듯 외, 내부를 가로 지르는 동안 천창으로 드리운 빛과 최소의 개구부를 통해 물위의 반사되어 산란된 빛들은 내부로 스미어 땅과의 경계와 물과의 경계가 동시에 흐려진다.
Facing a reservoir built to store agricultural water, the site is recovering its primitive landscape day by day and trying to resemble a natural lake. This place might have formed a natural boundary with waters along a slope. But one day, humans hands found the place, and they cut paths through it and laid out stone walls along these paths to impose a hierarchy on the land. Inevitably, however, a development rush that can be commonly found in any suburb areas came in. Such a situation requested to establish a new relationship between architecture and land as well as architecture and architecture.
The plots given to three architects share borders with each other, but their different hierarchical position is forming a clear boundary. And the topographic uniqueness of land has been disappeared long ago. Implementing an arrangement plan that makes architectures correspond with this man-made boundary is meaningless here. Therefore, a new order is established based on a completely new arrangement plan to erase the existing boundary. The scenery of the surrounding water space is coordinated to provide not only a visual experience but also a physical experience through various activities so that it can serve as a medium to embrace water. This water reflects clouds in the sky and pine trees nearby, and through an illusion of primitiveness that the site once had in the past, it might be able to give an opportunity to experience the mythical story of Narcissus.
Spread out over the water, 7 individual sections in the form of a 3×3 cube don’t specify a fixed function. Here users can freely define the function of each section when they are occupying it for a certain period of time, and its functional sequence is different from the one of an unusual living space. Unlike repeating floor plans, sections interlocking at different heights and angles and various floor levels make you feel as if you are walking the original terrain, and while you stroll inside and outside the building, lights drape around skylights and flow in through a minimized number of openings to be diffused by the water surface, and they eventually permeate into the inside to blur the borders with both the land and water.
